FMCSA Seeks CDL Testing Process Flexibility

On July 24, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) proposed a rule that would provide CDL applicants with the opportunity to take the mandated specialized and general knowledge tests in any state. Currently, CDL applicants must test in their state of residence. The FMCSA’s proposal specifies that states would not be required to offer tests to applicants who live out-of-state. Ray Martinez, FMCSA Administrator, stated that “reducing burdens and expenses on CDL applicants has the potential to increase the number of available drivers.” To read more, click here.

U.S. to Pay Farmers Affected by China Trade War a Minimum of $15 per Acre

On July 23, Sonny Perdue, U.S. Agriculture Secretary, announced that the U.S. government will distribute aid packages to farmers affected by the U.S.-China trade war. Farmers will be compensated a minimum of $15 per acre. Soybeans have been one of the trade disputes’ most impacted exports, with shipments to China dropping to a 16-year low in 2018.
