EPA Announces That Day Cabs Can Qualify for SmartWay Designation

On July 9, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced via a webinar that day cabs are now eligible to qualify for SmartWay designation, which indicates that the equipment notably reduces air pollution and fuel use. Sam Waltzer, SmartWay technology team leader within EPA’s Technology Assessment Center, stated that it is expected that “designated day cabs will be used in regional-haul operations.” A complete list of verified equipment can be found on the SmartWay website. Trade Update: S301 List 1 Exemptions

On July 9, a Federal Register notice announced the next set of S301 List 1 Exemptions, with 110 items in total. The new HTS number associated with these exclusions is 9903.88.11. The exclusion is retroactive dating back to July 6, 2018; as such, some of these files may already be liquidated and require a protest. If files have not liquidated, the entry summary can be updated with the new tariff and be resubmitted. U.S. Customs and Border Protection will be issuing further instructions on entry guidance. Walmart and Target Lead Retail Industry in Buy Online, Pick Up In-Store

According to Coresight Research, Walmart and Target are two of the most favored retailers for buy online, pick up in-store (BOPIS) services. Of the U.S. consumers who have purchased goods via BOPIS in the last year, 34 percent have used the service at Target and about 50 percent have used the service at Walmart. A National Retail Federation (NRF) study found that 64 percent of consumers use BOPIS to escape shipping costs, while 36 percent use the service to receive discounts or promotions.
