Trucking industry analysts predict the industry will remain strong in 2019 but will not experience the same growth rates as 2018. According to the DAT, demand increases could continue to rise due to construction activity in Q2 2019 but could lower due to proposed tariff increases. See more here.

Driver Turnover Rates For Large Truckload Carriers Decreases In 2018

In the latest report from the American Trucking Association (ATA), driver turnover rate for large truckload carriers decreased by 11 percent to 87 percent in Q3 2018. This is the lowest driver turnover rate since Q1 2017. See more here.

4 Ways The Government Shutdown Impacts Importers And Exporters

As the United States prepares to enter week three of a partial government shutdown, importers, exporters and trade agencies are beginning to feel the impacts. Typically, organizations such as the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) and US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) would be in high gear. However, many of these agencies are operating at reduced capacity due to the discontinuation of non-essential services. See more here.

CBP Not Processing Refunds During The US Government Shutdown

According to NCBFAA, CBP is not processing refunds such as Drawback during the lapse in appropriations. The issuing of checks will be delayed until after the shutdown is complete.

Import Volume For Ports Of New York And New Jersey Continue To Grow

Import volumes for November 2018 increased 5.9 percent year-over-year to 301,826 TEUs. Year-to-date imports for 2018 increased 7.6 percent year-over-year to 3,358,777 TEUs. See more here.

Sears Holdings Prepared To Liquidate Assets In 2019

In the latest update from Retail Dive magazine, Sears Holdings could prepare to liquidate some of their assets after a $4.4 billion bid was rejected from Sears Holdings’ Board of Directors. As Sears continues to sell its assets, there could be opportunities for Sears suppliers to begin partnering with other big box retailers such as Walmart and Sam’s Club. See more here.

Retail Employment Grows Year-Over-Year In December 2018

The National Retail Federation estimates that retail jobs grew by 37,600 in December 2018, which includes 15,000 new jobs in department stores and warehouse clubs. As big box retailers continue to expand, retail suppliers will need to continuously re-evaluate supply chain operations to ensure efficient movement of products into stores. See more here.
