Section 301 Tariff Update: Increases Announced for List 3 and List 4

In an announcement on Friday, August 23, 2019, the USTR (United States Trade Representative) advised that Section 301 List 3 tariffs will be increasing from 25 percent to 30 percent effective October 1, 2019, following a notice and comment period. List 3 is comprised of approximately $250 billion worth of Chinese imports and was first implemented on September 24, 2018 at 10 percent. On May 10, 2019, the List 3 duty rate increased to 25 percent.

In addition to the five percent increase in List 3, List 4A, set to go into effect on September 1, 2019, is also being increased by five percent, from the originally announced 10 percent provisional tariff to 15 percent. List 4A comprises approximately $300 billion worth of Chinese imports. To read more on our blog, click here.

Port San Juan Coast Guard Captain Sets Port Condition ZULU Amidst Tropical Storm Dorian

The Coast Guard Captain has set Port Condition ZULU today, August 28, 2019, for maritime ports in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands in the wake of Tropical Storm Dorian. During this time, the Port of San Juan will be closed to all commercial outbound and inbound vessel traffic until the storm has passed and further assessment has been made by Coast Guard teams. Hurricane Port Condition ZULU indicates that sustained gale force winds (39-54 mph) are expected to make landfall at the port within 12 hours. To view the bulletin, click here.
